Malinda

On the 18th of June, an author came to our school to talk to us about what its like to be an author!COOL!! She read the 'The Were Nana', which is one of her picture books and told us the moral of the story.

She talked about one of the chapter books that she wrote and what they did to the pages. In each bottom right corner was a picture of a dog, as you flick through the pages it looks like the dog is jumping up!

She told us about where she got some of the story ideas from. Some of the things she said were; some from movies, other books, tv programs and things that have happened to her!

Malinda has written storys in journals, chapter books, short storys and picture books. Some of those books are about what happened to her.

She also told us how to get a story published! First, you have to write your story. Next, you have to send it to the producer. Then, if it needs changing, they send it off to the editors. After that, the editors change and design it. When they're finished they send it to the publishers. Finaly, the publishers do what they do best, publish the book. Then you have your book!

At the end we had questions and gave out books and special certificates.

Should We Be Allowed To Skate At School?

I think we should be allowed to skate at schoool.

Firstly, if we have empty, boring spots in our school, we could fill them in with HPs, mini-ramps, skating bowls, rails, ledges to acid drop off and and places to put protection gear ofcours!

Secondly, we could be learning and playing at the same time! Like practicing tricks we already know and learnig new tricks and we could be geting more phisical edgecasion into our day.

Thirdly, if we practis enough we might be like Ryan Skechler, the youngest pro skater and we want, we could give some money that we earn to StarShip.

Fourthly, profesional skaters might hear about us and come to our school to do a demo.

Finaly,we could meet some pro like Chad Muska, Bam Margera, Tony Hawk and Bucky Lasak ask them some questions witch would be really cool!

Therfore,I beleive that we should definitly be allowed to skate at school.

Constable Dave

On Thursday,11 June, Constable Dave came to Room21!!!He came to tell us about road safty.

First, we said some places where our parents should not park and where we should and shouldn't cross the road. After that,we played 'The Hot Seat', witch is when we come up pretend that we are being told to cross somewhere unsafe and we have to say what we should do.

Then, we went outside. When we got outside we went to have a look at some places where our parents are and aren't allowed to park.We talked about what the signs mean.

While we wer outside,Constable Dave told us what side of the footpath we should walk on.

The last thing that we did outside was, practicing safe ways to coss at zebra crossings. We went in groups of five. One way of to crossing the road safely is to check when lights on the left go red, then you have five seconds to look left and right.

Finally, we went back to class to share some things that we learnt.I learnt that you have five seconds to look left and right after the lights on the left go red.

Then at 2:30 we had to say thank you and by to Constable Dave.

Litter Adjective Poem

On my way to school
I saw an apple.
It was a rotten apple.
It was a brown, rotten apple.
It was a smelly, brown, rotten apple.
It was a small, smelly, brown, rotten apple.
It was a rinkley, small, smelly, brown, rotten apple.
So I put it into the compost bin.

Oil and Water Dont Mix!!!

Oil and water don't mix because oil sits on top of the water. Oil gets into water because of boats loaded with oil breaking in half, people pouring oil into drains or sinks and people spilling oil into the water when filling up their boat. When oil gets into water birds swim into it and get covered with oil so they can't fly very well. Sometimes fish swim into oil thats on top of the sea, that causes the fish to not swim very well and die. People put up a floating wall called a boom on top of the sea around the oil spill to make it stop getting any bigger, then they use a thing like a vacuum cleaner to suck up all of the oil that was on top of the water. If you want to help stop oil getting into the water and help save the enviroment, you can try to be careful when filling up your boat and not pouring oil into drains and sinks. By Deken

This term Dek, thats me, made my first blog ever!!! It was really fun because it was quick(7 mins) and easy! Before we did all of this Mrs Armitage told as about Internet Safty.

In room21 we have been learning about how oil and water don't mix! First to learn a little bit of what happens and how oil gets into the sea we watched a movie about it.
